The BSE index reverted initial losses to close about 0.8% up at 73,088.3 on Friday, halting four consecutive sessions of drops, on heavy value-buying in banking shares. Early in the session, market sentiment was rattled by concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East, while uncertainty surrounding the US Fed rate cuts persists. Meanwhile, traders continued monitoring the earnings season. Locally, Indians begin voting today to choose their next parliament in the first of seven voting days that end on 1 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aiming for a rare third consecutive term in power. Among stocks, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, Maruti, Wipro, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finserv were the major gainers. Conversely, Nestle India, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro and TCS posted the biggest losses. Infosys declined 0.6% after the company's revenue growth guidance for FY25 failed to meet market expectations. For the week, the benchmark index lost 1.6%.
