Orders for Taiwanese exports rose 1.2% year-on-year to USD 47.16 billion in March 2024, recovering from a 10.4% drop in the previous month. The upturn was mainly driven by a strong rebound in orders for electronic products (12% vs -4.3% in February), information & communication products (4.3% vs -11.3%), and mineral products (1.3% vs -4.9%). Additionally, demand rose further for optical, photographic, cinematographic apparatus (11.8% vs 6.7%). At the same time, orders declined at a softer rate for electrical machinery products (-8.7% vs -23.3%), machineries (-13.9% vs -15.3%), textile products (-6.4% vs -20.4%), and basic metals (-10.4% vs -16.1%). Among major trade partners, demand went up to Hong Kong & China (7.7%), and ASEAN countries (19.3%), while it fell to Japan (-18%), the US (-2.2%), and Europe (-6.2%).
