Sweden’s trade surplus narrowed sharply to SEK 4.8 billion in March 2024 from SEK 10.6 billion in the same month a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports dropped 10.7% to SEK 176.2 billion, weighed by a strong decrease in sales for both EU (-10.3% to SEK 97.8 billion) and non-EU countries (-11.3% to SEK 78.4 billion). Meanwhile, imports fell at a softer 8.2% to SEK 171.4 billion, due to lower arrivals from EU (-7.9% to SEK 116.0 billion) and non-EU countries (-9% to SEK 55.4 billion). On a seasonally adjusted basis, the country’s trade surplus declined to SEK 3.4 billion compared to SEK 4.0 billion in February. Considering the first three months of the year, the trade surplus rose to SEK 28.7 billion from SEK 27.6 billion in the corresponding period last year.
