The BSE Sensex fell 528.1 points or 0.7% to 72,220.8 in early deals on Tuesday while reaching its lowest level in over four weeks, after closing in the green the day before, tracking a fall in Asian peers ahead of the Fed interest rate decision. Traders also braced for the monetary policy decision from other central banks after the Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate for the first time in 17 years by 10bps to 0%. Investors cautiously anticipated preliminary readings for manufacturing and services sectors in India during March later this week. All sectors traded in the red, led by tech, followed by oil & gas, consumer goods, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. IT sectors plunged 1.9%, mainly weighed by Tata Consultancy Services and L&T Technology Services shares that fell by 3.3% and 3.4%, respectively, amid news that Tata Sons will divest a 0.65% stake in TCS. Other the biggest laggards were BPCL (-3.4%), Nestle India (-3.1%), Cipla (-3.0%), and Dr. Reddy (-2.0%).
