The consumer prices in Thailand fell 0.47% year-on-year in March 2024, easing from a 0.77% drop in the previous month and compared to market forecasts of a 0.40% decline. It was the sixth consecutive period of falling consumer prices, driven by an ongoing deflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.57% vs -0.97% in February), mainly due to lower costs of meat, fish and fresh vegetables. In addition, prices continued to decrease for non-food products (-0.40% vs -0.63%), linked to reduced costs of diesel oil and electricity. Meanwhile, the core inflation rate was down to 0.37% from a prior 0.43%, marking the lowest rate since December 2021. On a monthly basis, the CPI inched up 0.03%, following a 0.22% increase in February.
